Timeless...

Beware of the wolves who come to the hen house offering bags of free chicken feed

run time: 10:06

"As your nominee, I pledge to restore to the federal government the capacity to do the people's work without dominating their lives. I pledge to you a government that will not only work well, but wisely; its ability to act tempered by prudence and its willingness to do good balanced by the knowledge that government is never more dangerous than when our desire to have it help us blinds us to its great power to harm us."
-Ronald Reagan, 1980 GOP Convention Address

run time: 46:08 (worth every second)

These speeches are timeless, not because of the man who delivered them, but because of the principles which they contain. Principles of freedom from government domination of individual lives, of the freedom to choose for ourselves the path which we deem best without having our government choose our path for us, and of the freedom to oppose any policy of our government which violates our individual liberties for the "good" of social causes.

Let us always remember, as the calls to look to Washington to solve our problems increase, that we are capable of managing our own lives and solving our own problems. Centralized government will talk and debate, but ultimately offer up only one solution for any given problem and then force the whole of the country to accept it. Why not let the citizens of the various States and local Communities solve those problems for ourselves which affect our everyday lives at home and work. Then let Washington deliberate disputes between the States and speak collectively for all the States to the world beyond.

The people of Illinois, California, Georgia, Texas, or any other State do not need the White House or Congress dictating to us matters of health, work, free speech, religion, or any other matter. One State, which runs its affairs well, should not be made to pay for another State which does not. Governments and government leaders must be subject to the natural consequences of failure for their policies. If they are not, what can temper their desire to engineer society based on their own agenda?

When the citizens of America fail to recognize our authority over our government, then America will cease to be. The name may stay the same, but the idea will be gone.

Every government is prone to expand its authority and further its domination of its subjects. However, we Americans are not the subjects of any government. Therein lies the essence of our founding. Our Government is Subject to Us!

Very nice commentary. I have to admit, I don't have time to listen to the speeches. Maybe soon Savannah and Donovan will both be sleeping at the same time, and I'll have time.
